Quick Update

Mr B has what is called a nerve sheath tumor of the right fifth cranial nerve. They are treated either with surgery which has a high rate of re-growth or with 15 radiation sessions. That could only be decided after having an MRI done. The doctor says they can grow slowly and without treatment it might not cause him more serious problems for as long as 24 months. We also found out that he has several old retinal scars on his left eye from a previous virus; that most likely caused his deafness as well.

The past few days have been very tiring. I gave the dogs something to chew when we got home last night; nice to see Mr B playful and having fun, like an 80 lb puppy!

We don’t plan on having the MRI done, the only result would be giving us two options we aren’t willing to put him thru. He’s an elderbull who deserves to be happy, comfortable, and pain free for as long as possible. I’m currently researching to find a vet in our area who has experience with seniors and is willing to work with us on pain management and compassionate care when that time comes.

Thanks again for all the kind comments and emails, and sorry for the delay with the update.

  1. So sorry to hear it; he looks like such a sweetheart. I think your decision is a wise one. I am sure that his remaining time will be happy and comfortable in your home.

  2. You are the best decision maker for him – make sure you always remind yourself of that. We are praying for the gentle giant and wish him pain free, happy days for as long as it’s meant to be.

  3. I am so sorry to hear about Mr. B, such a gorgeous pup. I wish you the best with whatever decision you make, I know it will be the best for him. I’m sending him big hugs and kisses.

You don’t know me because I don’t comment very much on blogs, and lately have not been following my favorite blogs too closely because my girl Sasha had been having a very rough time.

I’ll be looking out for pictures of Mr. B and the pack 🙂
