Ted had his surgery on Friday. It was much less invasive than the first time and he was able to come home Saturday afternoon. He’s tired and medicated but seems comfortable and so far hasn’t shown interest in his incision.
Regular readers/followers might remember that Teddy had knee surgery last September. He’s always had a wonky, sort of wobbly walk but it’s been worse off & on the past few weeks so we went to the vet today. We knew the chances of recurrence were rather high after an ACL repair but didn’t expect it this soon, surgery on his right leg scheduled for Friday afternoon 😦
Teddy had his last laser treatment and a check up today. He’s doing very well, at this point needs longer walks in order to rebuild muscle. Still two more weeks until he’s cleared for all activity so now he’s allowed to climb onto the bed, futon, and couch. It’s going to be a while before I really feel comfortable with him on the stairs and in the backyard unattended.
Teddy’s vet uses therapeutic laser treatments as part of the recovery process. He will have a total of 13; three were done while he was in the hospital, this morning he had his sixth.
So Teddy is doing well. After Tuesday he will only be on one prescription. He’s been regularly putting some weight on the bad leg, had five of his 13 laser treatments, and his two week checkup is later this week. Most days he’ll just lay around and nap but once in a while I know he’s feeling better when he decides he wants to jump onto the bed or couch. I’ve been lucky that there was only one instance where that ended up causing him pain and crate time for the day. Doodle still considers herself on nurse duty but has finally relaxed enough that she can actually nap with him when he’s out of the crate.
A bit of Teddy attitude after getting warned about licking his incision:
Morning sniffs in the front yard…he really enjoys just watching everything going on in the neighborhood:
Lunch! He eats in a different crate so he doesn’t mess up his orthopedic bed:
Afternoon potty break in the back yard:
Teddy never had a big interest in toys but I made sure to have a supply on hand so he wouldn’t get bored with crate time:
Hanging out next to my desk in the evening:
Teddy came home Thursday evening! He was tired, confused, and heavily medicated but doing fine. I’m slowly getting into a routine for him of crate time, potty breaks, and all his meds. He hasn’t bothered his incision so we haven’t had to use the cone of shame. He can be stubborn about pills though so that’s been a bit challenging. Just happy-and relieved-that he’s home 🙂
